Melanie Gowns started as a hobby in my basement. I love clothing and I always have. I think I was planning my first outfit in my mother's womb. As it turned out, I was the second child of 14 and my daddy was a coal miner. So, needless to say, fashion was not a big priority in our home. I rarely got new clothes. Most of the time I got hand-me-downs, not just from my older sister, but from kind neighbors and relatives. I learned to sew real quick!. I could take some hideous, decade-out-of-style article of clothing and see its potential. I would then tear it apart and make something fabulous to wear. I learned so much from those glorious days of experimenting and exploring. It didn't stop there, however. I continued learning by experimenting with dressing different body types and what styles and accents work on different women.
All of this has led me to where I am today. I was so frustrated with lack of unique yet tasteful options in the field of formal gowns. I am also not a fan of the "wear it once" disposable fashion philosophy. It's bad for society and it's bad for the environment. So I created my own company. It is small and it is quaint, but it is on my terms and the benefits of that spill over to my clients and customers! You get incredible customer service, great quality, and peace of mind knowing that my gowns are fair labor sourced with sustainable practices in mind.
I am excited to share my joy and passion with you. I want you to feel confident and able to show the world who you are!
